And so you are considering joining us? That's great! We welcome new members, regardless of experience, gender, or race. All members are welcome, aged 16+ (12 - 16 year olds with written permission of legal guardian)
Previous experience is not required, we are a mixture of beginners and experienced, and with each production, we include FREE workshops for actors and crew where you can learn new skills and practice old ones!
Benefits of doing theatre with us include gaining increased self confidence, learning basic acting/ performance skills, and public speaking, making new friends, learning about local history and legends, and working as part of a close team.
We are open to new members who are interested in: Acting , Singing, Music, Costumes / makeup, Props Set design, Lighting, Sound, Writing, Researching
Our main membership rules are that members attend rehearsals/ workshops reliably, and carry out whatever tasks that they have agreed to do (help is always available!), and treat other members of the group with respect and friendliness.
We accept new members at all times. We advertise our auditions for new shows publicly and this is the best time to join us, however you can actually join at any time, by coming to one of our rehearsal evenings to see what we are doing, and for an informal chat (please email bardic_dreams@yahoo.co.uk to arrange).
At the moment, those who join our theatre group, need to also arrange membership of the local British Legion club, since this is where we rehearse and do quite a few of our performances - this is because of thier licencing laws. Currently this stands at £16 per year. Subsidised Legion membership available for those on means tested benefits. ...
We do expect a few things from our members:
-Prompt arrival at agreed times for rehearsals or shows (if you are late or unable to come, please phone or text ahead to let the rest of the cast know.!)
- Teamwork. This basically means being pleasant and civil towards the other members of the theatre company. If you agree to do a particular task, then please carry it out.
- Have respect for other people's property. Sometimes members relatives or friends will lend costumes or props. If you are using items from the Players or lent to the group by friends or relatives of other members, please treat those items with respect, and if you take an item home for any reason, be sure let an officer of the Players committee know first, and then be sure to return the borrowed items to the South Devon Players at the end of the final show in a "run".
You also can expect certain things from us, and if you feel we have slipped up, as we are all on a learning curve, please let us know!
- Email updates, to let you know what's happening with the Players
- To be treated in a friendly manner by other members, with respect for you and your property.
- Free copies of scripts for cast members of a show (if lost, however, additional copies requested to replace ones mislaid, may be charged for, at the cost of printing)
- Free members handbook involving information about the Players, and also useful information for anyone interested in theatre. If you have not recieved this, you can contact us to request it!
- Although there are a few officers on the South Devon Players committee, ALL members are also members of the Players committee. That means that you are welcome to attend any committee meetings, and give input and feedback.
